Our Very 1st Good
Samaritan
6yr old Coty Marie
She was given a choice on how to represent her title she won recently.
Her response "I don't want people to think I'm pretty with
no brains sitting in a parade! Can we help people?" She has
and continues to raise funds for 27 charities (Cancer, Multiple
Sclerosis, Cystic Fibrosis, CROP, etc.) she chooses each month.
She has also taken First Aid and CPR and has helped 3 children
this month on the playground with injuries while waiting for help
from the office staff. She visits University of Michigan Mott
Children's Hospital when she is off from school. She does the
laundry on Sun. for me as a little Brownie, I don't ask! She feeds
the animals to help her father out on the weekends. She always
carries a bag of toys and wrapped candies in the store in case
a child is crying and will ask the mom/dad if it's ok to give
to the child to "make them smile"! She is forever giving
her toys, gloves and hats away to people "who need them".
I have an old soul in this child.
Winners
March's Good Samaritan
2yr old Shelby Rae
She is saving her money for "Miracles for Matthew" a
little 7 year old boy
who is at St. Jude's Hospital with cancer. Every dollar, 1/4 or
dime she finds
laying around or given to her, she has placed it in the jug. She
got
to go visit St. Judes Hospital in January of this year and we
met
Matthew's Mom.
Rhiannon Dressel-Beattie, Age 9
Rhiannon is the nine year-old hostess of "Pretty In Pink Ribbons".
Pretty In Pink Ribbons (http://www.PrettyInPinkRibbons.com) is
an on-line charity contest that was started to encourage collecting
the specially marked lids and coupons on products where the manufacturer/distributor
will make donations to breast cancer charities (Susan G. Komen
Foundation and City of Hope) for each lid/coupons submitted. It
was hoped that the encouragement of winning a title would increase
the particpation in the pageant community, of which, it has. As
well, Rhiannon is an avid pageant contestant who has donated her
trophies to schools and military units since Kindergarten. As
well, she willfully shares her tiaras and smaller crowns with
many charity pageants, contests and even a local military unit.
She donates all silkscreened banners to charity events. Besides
being an avid supporter of breast cancer charity events, Rhiannon
is also a staunch supporter of assisting the homeless, particularly
the children. She regularly shares her outgrown clothes, shoes,
and toys with them through the Poverello House (http://www.PoverelloHouse.org),
a homeless shelter in Fresno. She also donates her books and videos
to Naomi's House, a sister shelter for homeless women and children.
Rhiannon is also involved with her church, volunteering as an
altar server. She is as involved in her community as any adult.
She is frequenlty recognized for her charitable work by directors
and was recently crowned the Barstow Charity Queen by a pageant
director, for her help with her charity, which is an LA based
shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence
(Human Options).
